After having postponed this trip for quite some time, I finally went to visit the Island of Lokrum. This island sits right in front of the Old Port of Dubrovnik and has a very strong impact on the landscape.
To get to the island, you need to get a ticket for a boat that leaves every 30 min from the Old Port and the trip is around 15 min.
As the island has plenty of areas and places to visit, I will split this trip into several posts, coming the next days.

Here I am again posting a new picture. This lack of posts was mainly due to a technical problem with my laptop, for the moment I managed workaround it.
Anyway, today’s picture was taken few evenings ago at the Ploče gate in Dubrovnik.
With his music, the man was entertaining several people and kids; at a certain point a couple also started to dance at the rhythm of his notes.

On my way back home from work, right after entering the Grad from the Pile Gate, I noticed this artist; what surprised me was his skill to play more than one instrument at a time (actually 3) and still being able to play a very pleasant song, all by himself.
This shot took quite some time as many people were passing by, either for talking to him or just to visit the outer part of the Old Town; but it was worth it, in my opinion.

After a quick look to the map, today I decided to go to Fort Impérial, at the top of Mount Srd.

Island of Lokrum
This afternoon I decided to pay a visit to the Museum of Modern Art in Dubrovnik for Steve McCurry’s exhibition; many people might not know him by his name, but one of his pictures, named ‘Afghani girl’, appeared on National Geographic, gave him a fame that surely precedes him (google it, it is worth it).
The exhibition is incredible, probably one of the best I have been so far, concerning photography. His technique is impressive; he can really transmit strong feelings with his photos, which mostly involve portraits of people from distant countries. Continue Reading
Right next to the Pile Gate (Vrata od Pila), the Western entrance to the Old Town of Dubrovnik, is possible to spot the Fort Bokar.
This very beautiful fortress used as key point for the defense of the city, built from 1461 to 1463 during the reconstruction of the city walls, “stands in front of the medieval wall face protruding into space almost with its whole cylindrical volume.” (source)
The sea and the sky, creating a strong contrast of colours, enhance its beauty and somehow smooth its rough look.
The Old Town with its Stradun, its shops, churches, museums and restaurants is surely enjoyable, but I believe the tiny stairways are the true beauty of this part of the city, which are actually some sort of street.
These streets are very long and steep and they surely are breathtaking, both literally and not.
Did I mention they are really long? Mmmh, perhaps I did… Maybe I am just complaining because to get to my apartment it takes a lot of steps. Continue Reading
Yesterday, here in Dubrovnik, started the Dubrovnik Summer Festival: “a world famous annual event held in Dubrovnik. A rich program consisting of classical music, theatre performances and dance is performed at more than 70 open-air venues from 10th of July until 25th of August.” (source)
