After a quick look to the map, today I decided to go to Fort Impérial, at the top of Mount Srd.
Having forgotten the map at home, I had to rely purely on my instincts. That meant a very long walk; but a the end I managed to get to the beginning of the path that would lead me to the top of the mountain.
The other option would have been to use the cable car, but I think it wouldn’t have been the same.
Well, it took me an hour or so to get to the top: tired and extremely thirsty, mainly because the way is full of rocks and hard to walk on.
Luckily, a Croatian guy, who was working at the museum of the fort, offered me some cold water; which tasted like sweet ambrosia, at that time.
The Fort Impérial, constructed between 1806 and 1812 during the period of French rule and dedicated to Napoleon the First, stands facing the coast and the town of Dubrovnik.
The fort became a symbol of heroic defense of Dubrovnik during the Homeland War (1991-1995).
The war greatly damaged it, but it still proudly holds on.
As the sunset was quickly approaching I just rested and enjoyed to amazing panorama.
The sunset ended being amazingly beautiful, the colours were simply marvelous.
The idea to ask for a ride back crossed my mind, but at the end I decided to just walk back.
Only the rocks made the task harder, I was in fact almost going to be upset at them but I quickly realized that would only make the rocks more mad, which surely isn’t a wise choice.
