As a final trip before our departure, we walked just outside Shkodër to the Rozafa Castle.
The castle, due to its strategic location, has a very long history, dating back hundreds of years. It overlooks the whole area around Shkodër from its height.
It’s not a long walk up to the castle but the heat, the steep roads covered with slippery (and shiny) rocks make it harder to get to the top.

Once there though, the view is astounding and the light breeze of that day made it a very nice experience.
The next day would be our last day in Albania and in the Balkans.
I have to say that this summer trip, other than being a chance to see beautiful places and meet friendly people, also made me learn and understand more about the history of the Balkans and its people.
