Nesh around The World

The boat trip on the Koman/Komani Lake (which, to be honest, kind of looks like a river to me) is a common destination for travelers, especially if they are interested in hiking in the north of Albania. In fact, this is the most beautiful and scenic way to get to Fierza (a small town where many hiking trails begin).

Since the hostel was in very close contact with one (possibly the only one) of the transportation companies bringing people from Shkodër to Fierza, we were given a couple of tickets for a day-trip on the ferry.
They came and picked us up at 6am and brought us to a small port, passing by some very hostile terrain, especially for a mini-van. As they say: you start really appreciating love, health, money and good roads only when they are gone.

After a small wait, just enough to take in all that beautiful weather and scenery, we were invited to get on the ferry and welcomed with a shot of rakia (local liqueur). Maybe because I am not a fan of strong alcohols or maybe because it was just 7 in the morning, I didn’t really drinking it but, again, hey that’s part of the experience!

We couldn’t have asked for anything better: great weather (a bit windy at times but we had blankets at our disposal), very peaceful views which, I believe, could make anyone start thinking of philosophy or nature (or both).
The ferry arrived around noon at Fierza and stopped for an hour for lunch break. We wandered around the town and had a simple lunch at a local restaurant (simple for me, mainly French fries and salad, as most of the things were meat).
On the way back, we also stopped by a gorgeous hidden bay where we could swim and take pictures for a while (see the main photo).
The rest of the tour was again a very quiet and enjoyable experience (standing on the roof of the ferry was amazing!).
We got back to the hostel just past sunset, passing again through that treacherous road, finally understanding why everyone had such glimmering eyes when talking about their journey on Lake Komani.
